Dear Present and Future Waeg. Wave Swim Team Members:

Welcome to another season of summer competitive swimming.

Who we are:

The Waeg Waves Swim Team is run by a parent volunteer executive committee in conjunction with the Head Coach. Parents of team members are expected to provide some volunteer support throughout the summer season.  The Waeg Waves Swim Team provides an opportunity for its members to develop as athletes and to achieve their potential as swimmers within the ten week course of the program. Because swimmers join our team at a range of ability levels and ages, the progress of each individual varies greatly. During the introductory stages, coaches strive to develop technical skills while at the same time fostering a love for the sport and establishing a positive team atmosphere. Through the Waeg Waves Swim Team’s emphasis on leadership, sportsmanship, and self -discipline, all swimmers will gain the chance to be the best they can be in the pool and to become better people in the process.

Registration

Registration for the swim team will be done through the manager's office. ( Do not call the Swim Office as messages are not checked) If your child is interested in competing, please call the manager's office at 429-2824 or e-mail waegwoltic@ns.sympatico.ca. A team package will then be mailed out to you.  As well, in Janaury 2010 a registration package is available online at www.waegwoltic.ca.  There will be a link to the swim team on the home page.

To be fair to all Waeg members, the deadline for returning swimmers to register is Friday February 26, 2010.  Age groups will be filled on a first come basis.

After this date the team age groups will be filled from the waiting list established for new members.  New members are invited to request a package and submit their forms as soon as possible to get their names placed on the waiting list.  Age groups for younger members fill up extremely fast.

Before registering, please consider the following:

1. This is a competitive swim club that competes in swim meets almost every weekend during the summer in various locations- locally and out of town. We ask that swimmers attend 50% of the practices and make· at least 3 meets. Practices are held Monday-Friday (rain or shine) from 6:30-7:30 PM.   Each age group has one specified morning swim 7:30-8:30 a.m and four evening swims.

2. Swimmers should have passed Swim Kids 6 or equivalent. For those who have not taken formal lessons the coaches will administer a pool test during the first week of practices.

3. This year (2010) our tentative starting date is Monday June 14th.

4. We cannot accommodate winter competitive swimmers.

5. If you were a member last year and are not planning to return, please advise us so others can be accommodated.
